Mulberry Leaf Extract Capsules
high on antioxidants
60 Capsules 200 mg
Mulberry leaf contains all essential amino acids, high calcium and antioxidants such as quercetin, kaempferol, and rutin.
Research
shows that mulberry leaf contains DNJ (1-deoxynojirimycin), which
reduces blood sugar, GABA (gamma amino-butyric acid), which reduces
blood pressure, and Phytosterol which reduces cholesterol.
Benefits:
Blood
sugar reduction, weight loss, anti-inflammatory properties,
hyperlipidemia effects, antioxidant properties and medlinePlus.
Blood Sugar Reduction
Research
published in the May 2007 issue of "Diabetes Care" notes that in Asia,
some health care practitioners treat type 2 diabetes with mulberry leaf.
The authors cite a previous study in which mulberry leaf lowered
fasting blood sugar in 12 people with type 2 diabetes, and also lowered
blood sugar in normal rats and in diabetic rats. The current study
evaluated the effects on blood sugar when people with type 2 diabetes
and control subjects consumed mulberry extract along with a 75-g sucrose
solution. The diabetic individuals also were taking oral medications to
lower blood sugar. A control group took a placebo with the sucrose.
Later, the two groups were switched and the process repeated. Taking
mulberry extract significantly lowered blood sugar for the first two
hours of the study compared with a placebo.
Weight Loss
Laboratory
research indicates that extracts of mulberry tea leaves may interfere
with carbohydrate absorption, according to Sahelian. The component
moranoline inhibits an enzyme in the intestines involved in digesting
carbohydrates. This could make mulberry tea or extract beneficial during
a diet.
Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Mulberry
is an excellent source of an anthocyanin known as cyanidin 3-glucoside,
traditionally used for treating inflammatory conditions such as
rheumatoid arthritis, according to a study published in the Fall 2006
issue of the "Journal of Medicinal Food." During this animal research,
mulberry fruit extract provided anti-inflammatory benefits for arthritic
rats.
Hyperlipidemia Effects
The
"Journal of Medicinal Food" animal study identified another potential
benefit of mulberry fruit extract. In addition to having
anti-inflammatory activity, it reversed induced negative changes in
triglyceride levels and in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, the
so-called good cholesterol.
Antioxidant Properties
Anthocyanins
have antioxidant activity, and mulberries also contain resveratrol,
another antioxidant. These substances have protective effects against
free radicals, waste products that occur during the metabolism of food
to energy and also in response to environmental toxins like air
pollution, explains
MedlinePlus
These free radicals cause cell damage and may contribute to the development of cancer, heart disease and other illness.
